CLOSING REMARKS

13. The Planet Under Pressure conference has demonstrated that the Earth system faces unprecedented challenges, but also that global ingenuity provides an immense storehouse of potential solutions.  Ample evidence exists to act and we know enough about the limits to our ingenuity to exercise caution before allowing change to progress too far.  Yet institutional responses are too slow to match accelerating rates of interconnected social, environmental and economic change. The conference highlights the critical need for a greater sense of urgency and global leadership, to step forward and embrace a fundamental shift {What is this shift? {Also the references appear to have very little social science or humanities input. I would at least thought to Agenda 21 and The Earth Charter might be appropriate.}
